A headshot that looks like you on a good day.
Nobody arrives at a headshot session relaxed.
People turn up apologising for their hair, telling me which side is the bad one, certain they will look wooden.
Here is the part most people have backwards. A photograph is not something that happens to you. In front of a camera you can decide what you are showing, the same way you decide it when you walk into a meeting. Most people have simply never been told how.
How it actually works
Your face does nearly all of its work with a few moving parts: the eyes, the forehead, the mouth, the angle of the head. Your body adds the rest. Where your shoulders sit. Whether you lean in towards the lens or pull away from it. Leaning away reads as defensive, and it reads that way to everyone who sees the picture later, even if they could not tell you why.
I explain these one at a time as we go. The camera is tethered to a monitor, so you see each frame full size a second after it is taken. That matters more than it sounds: expression is the whole game here, and you cannot read an expression on a screen the size of a playing card.
The first frames are just you as you arrived, no instructions. Then we add one thing, and you watch what it did. And another. By the fourth or fifth look most people have stopped feeling self-conscious, because they are too busy being interested in the result.
That is also the honest answer to the question I get most often: how can I look confident? How can I look like someone who leads a team, or someone you would want on yours? It is not luck and it is not bone structure. It is a handful of decisions, and they can be learned in ten minutes.
Where the method comes from
Most of my headshot work is corporate, and most of it has been done at volume. I have shot over 400 corporate headshots, used as Outlook and Teams avatars and on company org charts, and on LinkedIn, which is usually where people care most. Outside that, a firm of solicitors: around ten professionals plus their staff.
Volume teaches you things a single session never will. With people queuing outside the room, each one gets about ten minutes, and at the end of those ten minutes there need to be three or four frames good enough that the only hard part is choosing between them. That is the standard I work to, and getting there is my job, so you can relax.
I bring a white background and flash or LED lighting, and set up in whatever room you can spare. In a day, I can photograph everyone on an office floor.
What you get
- On your own: about 1.5 hours, enough for several looks and changes of clothing. For a team: around ten minutes each, with a full studio set up in your building
- Direction throughout: where to put your hands, where to look, what to do with your shoulders. You will not be left standing there guessing
- Clean, consistent results across a whole team, so your website doesn’t look assembled from holiday snaps
- Retouching that removes the stray hair and the tired morning, not your face

Where I work
I can bring a full studio to your offices, backdrop and lights included, and photograph a team through the day. Or we use the building as it is: meeting rooms, stairwells, the light by the window. For a single portrait we can also work outdoors, which gives a less formal result. Sometimes that is exactly what the picture needs.
Also for companies
- Conferences, forums and corporate events
- Team and department portraits
- Christmas parties and internal celebrations
- Product and commercial work
